End of Year (WHAT?!?) Assessments–MAPS Growth Assessment Grades 2-7
Can you believe it is almost May? While I admit to counting down the days to Easter Break, it is always a surprise how quickly the year comes to a close once we return. So, what does an end of year look like for each grade? This week, let’s focus on Grades 2-7, as they begin first!
All students in 2nd-7th grades will take their third NWEA MAPS Growth Assessment next Monday (5/1), Tuesday (5/2), and Wednesday (5/3). Please be sure to help your child get a good night’s sleep each evening and have a filling breakfast that morning!
On the car ride, would you reiterate the strategies teachers have been working on with your child all year? They include:
- Read the question. Read all the answers. Read the question again!
- Find your answer in the text for Reading selections before moving on. This is called using Text Evidence to support your answer.
- Discard the answers that don’t make any sense–don’t let them trick you!
- Take it slow and do their best–this is not a timed test and I am happy to let them take as long as they need.
A reminder from a different voice could make a difference in their performance–much like a (not me) teacher voice makes a difference in my house!
Second Grade is taking this as a practice test and no scores will be recorded.
This practice has significantly reduced test anxiety and helped with familiarity in third grade as they take the test for real! If you are the parent of a second grader, please note that the teachers are proctoring as if this test is recorded to give them the experience they will have at the beginning of next school year. Practice makes easier and better!
What about the other grades?
Check back next time for a breakdown of our own in-house, STM assessments that will help form your child’s final report card grade!
