The end of the year is one of the most fulfilling times for students, parents, and teachers alike. While the teachers are always closely monitoring your child's progress, the "proof" of all of their growth is in their end of year assessment data. I hope you have seen tremendous progress over this school year--and that your child is so proud of what they have accomplished!
Just like at the beginning of the year and in January/February, your children will be assessed in Reading, Language Arts, Spelling, Math, and Religion--either informally or formally. See below for some of the assessments and how we use the data at the end of the year:
Scantron Performance Series (2nd-7th)
Students will take the final assessment to monitor growth, see if they met their growth goal for this current school year, and help identify skills they may continue to practice over the summer and into next school year.
Fountas and Pinnell (F&P) (K-8th or until tested out)
Students will read with their teachers to determine the level (A-Z) that is appropriate for independent and instructional summer reading. This data also helps determine where instruction begins next year until assessments can be updated in September.
Developmental Spelling Assessment (DSA--K-7th)
Students will take a spelling test to determine what patterns and features of spelling and vocabulary they have mastered and what they can work on over the summer and into next year, when they will be reassessed in September.
Phonological Awareness Literacy Screening (PALS--Pre-K and K)
Early reading assessment that monitors letter identification, letter sound identification, and early literacy skills. This information, in conjunction with the F&P, helps teachers recommend books and skills over the summer and inform instruction until new assessments in September.
Kindergarten Assessment of Mathematical Competency (KAMC--K)
Diocesan standardized test measuring the ability to demonstrate number sense and mastery of the Kindergarten math curriculum.
ACRE (5th and 8th)
Religion assessment used to test cumulative knowledge of the Catholic Faith; given in 5th and 8th grade only.
World Language Exam (8th)
This exam allows those who are ready to place out of Spanish I in high school.
