Have you heard about the Middle School Houses?
Following the tradition of English schools our program was developed especially for St. Thomas More Cathedral School. The goal is to promote school spirit and pride, provide opportunities for personal growth and success, and to develop a sense of responsibility and accountability.
The houses are inspired by, and named after, six children saints. The saints’ lives also serve as individual examples of hardship, courage, faith, virtue, and the beautiful diversity of the Catholic Church.
The sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students are divided into six houses. These houses inspire enthusiasm, leadership, and pride and give students a strong sense of belonging across grade levels. It creates a fun-filled and positive school atmosphere and helps to integrate faith and community life.
Each house is led by a teacher who is given two eighth grade stewards (one boy and one girl). The houses channel this sense of camaraderie and competitiveness toward school unity and community service.
Throughout the year, the houses compete in various athletic activities, work together on school and community activities, and grow in the sense that each individual makes a valuable contribution to his/her house.
