Summer Computer Programming Camps at Bishop Ireton for Rising 6th Graders and Up

Keep students' minds active over the summer in some fun technology camps here at Bishop Ireton!

June Session (6/28 - 7/2): Campers will explore the world of computer programming using Finch Robots. Campers will write code to control the robots as they investigate different coding constructs. Come and learn how to make the robot negotiate a maze or perform a dance, have it create a drawing as it moves, see it put on its own light show or have it play a song. You may even create your very own game with the Finch. Every day there will be new challenges to solve and students will be encouraged to come up with their own challenges for other campers to solve. Younger campers (rising 6th-8th graders) will be using drag and drop visual programming (Snap!) and older campers (rising 9th- 12th graders) will be using text-based programming (Python).

July Session (7/19 - 7/23): Campers will explore the world of computer programming using Micro:Bit pocket-sized computers as they investigate different coding constructs and come up with their own solutions to coding based challenges. Micro:Bits have buttons and lights, can play sound and can sense temperature, movement, and light. Campers will be provided starter challenges, and will be encouraged to propose their own challenges and then solve them with their fellow campers. Campers will take home their Micro:Bit pocket-sized computer so their programming adventures can continue. Materials cost $20 per camper. Younger campers (rising 6th-8th graders) will be using drag and drop visual programming (Microsoft MakeCode) older campers (rising 9th-12th graders) will be using text-based programming (Python).
